About ILCS Index

ILCS Index is an independent, free reference that helps people locate Illinois offense codes and the statutes behind them. It is not legal advice and is not affiliated with any government agency.

01 / WHO RUNS THIS

An independent Illinois reference project

Operated by the Independent Illinois Offense Code Reference project.

The site is built and maintained by an independent developer for officers, attorneys, students, and members of the public who need a fast way to find the Illinois statute behind an offense code. It is not sponsored, approved, or endorsed by the State of Illinois or any law enforcement agency.

PatrolSync, the agency workstation linked from this site, is a separate product from the same project for departments that want shift briefings and agency tools.

02 / WHERE THE DATA COMES FROM

Built on public records

Every result points back to a published public source.

Offense descriptions and reporting codes come from the publicly published Illinois Secretary of State Police Offense Code Index. Statute text and headings come from the Illinois General Assembly at ilga.gov. Classification, Rule 551 court appearance, and SAFE-T Act detention labels are derived from those sources by documented rules.

The full source list and integrity process is on the Data Sources & Integrity page. Always confirm current law on ilga.gov and follow your agency policy.

03 / HOW IT IS FUNDED

No ads, no trackers

The free reference stays free and ad-free.

ILCS Index does not run advertising. The project is supported by optional printable guides, a licensed offense dataset for software vendors and researchers, plain-text sponsorships on a few public guide pages, and agency subscriptions to PatrolSync.

  • • Search Stays Private: Searches run on your device and are never shared with sponsors or buyers.
  • • Same Data Everywhere: Products and exports are generated from the exact data shown on the site.
